Jacob Johannes (Bauman) Bowman was the son of Wendel Santmann Bauman (Bowman) (1665-1738) who was born in Bern, Switzerland and Ann Herr Bauman (1680-1735) who was also born in Bern, Switzerland.

Jacob married Elizabeth Rueger (1716-1781)in New Holland, Lancaster, Pennsylvania on August 11, 1740. Elizabeth was the daughter of Antoni Rueger (1690-1770) and Juditha Margaretha Schaub Rueger (1689-1730).
