David Jamison Bowman, (Jack), 78, a resident of 86 Rex Road in Harrisonburg, died at 2:28 Friday morning, June 16, 1995, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital. A son of the late J. Terry and Lula Jamison Bowman, he was born on November 4, 1916, in Franklin County, but moved to Rockingham County in 1933. He attended schools in Augusta County and graduated from Linville-Edom High School in 1936, where he was an outstanding athlete. Mr. Bowman was a dairy farmer along with his Father and Brother. He was instrumental in developing Shen-Rock Holsteins, one of the outstanding herds in the state of Virginia in the late 60's and early 70's. He retired from farming in 1976, and was a member of Greenmount Church of the Brethren. Surviving is a sister, Geneva Westhafer of Staunton; one brother, Ellis Bowman of Harrisonburg, four nieces, including Paige Bowman of Roanoke; three nephews; several great-nieces and nephews; and great-great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister, Irene Bowman. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Olen B. Landes. His body now rests at the Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home, but the casket will not be opened. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to an organization of your choice.
