Joe Clower Bowman, 91, of 1130 Highlands Place, Sunnyside Presbyterian Retirement Community in Harrisonburg, died Tuesday, May 3, 2005, at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville. He had suffered a fall.
Mr. Bowman was born Dec. 1, 1913, in Harrisonburg, and was a son of the late Joseph C. and Edna Cromer Bowman.
He graduated from Harrisonburg High School and served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a registered architect in Florida, Arizona and Virginia and had formerly worked at Nielsen Construction in Harrisonburg.
Mr. Bowman was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, the Masonic Lodge, and the Kiwanis Club.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Glover Bowman, whom he married July 1, 1939; four children, Sue Ellen Addicott of Sarasota, Fla., Robert L. Bowman of Richmond, Alfred R. Bowman of Virginia Beach, and Melanie Ann Schlosser of Hagerstown, Md.; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
His body will be cremated at the Lindsey Cremation Chapel in Harrisonburg. A private burial will be at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens.
The Rev. L. Douglas Hill and Dr. Thomas Smith will conduct a memorial service 2 p.m. Friday at Sunnyside Presbyterian Retirement Home.
