In Kentucky, John is first seen in Garrard County when he appeares on their 1799 tax rolls. Jacob Bowman Sr was an heir of his brother, Joseph, who was killed in 1779 as a result of military service. In 1801 & 02, 1000 acres of Garrard County family inheritance land, between the Dicks and Kentucky River, was received and recorded by Jacob Jr.
In 1802 John Bowman was noted as bondsman for his sister Sally in her marriage to Edmund Perkins in Garrard County. In 1804 John acquired 100 ac of Garrard Co land in the forks of the Dicks and the Kentucky River from his brother Jacob {Mercer DB#18,p502/3}. Also in 1804 John is noted as the brother to Nancy Bowman in the marriage bond for her to William Mcpheeters. In 1805 there is a Garrard Co deed for a slave girl to John Bowman from ?J (or ?Th) Robards; wit: Th. Robards & Ed. Perkins {MercerDB #18,p504}.
In 1 Dec 1806 John Bowman and Edmund Perkins make bond in
Garrard County for the intended marriage of John Bowman and
Fanny Perkins. [On November 24, 1807 John Bowman was noted in a Mercer county marriage bond as the father to Polly Bowman with Jacob Satterly the intended husband = George Bowman was a witness to this bond. { this is possibly another family}]]
"John Bowman son of Jacob Bowman of South Carolina" was heir to a tract of Mercer County land (where John Dunlap lived) in the May 1824 {BK8, p.16} will of John Bowman, son of Colonel John. John, of SC, likely resided on this inherited land which was part of the historical "Bowman Station" and adjoins Bellevue on the east.
The will of John Bowman (of SC), dated 27 May 1848 {Mercer WB13, p.54} names four sons: Stephen N., Edmund P., Benjamine H. and William H. H. Bowman; witness John Bowman, Joseph Bowman, George Bowman & Richard Lancaster. [It is to be noted that three of John's children carry given names similar to the Fanny Prekins family]. In this 1848 will of John Bowman (of SC) his son William H. Bowman inherited the plantation adjoining Bellevue. In 1851 William H and wife Hannah Frances Bowman sold this same land to Josiah Lipscomb. The deed of sale so states that the graveyard on property contains the "father and son" remains of seller and said have the privilege to fence same if he chooses.
John is buried in his family graveyard on the 236 acres inherited from his cousin John (son of Colonel John). This land joins the Bellevue Bowman Station property on the east. Today John's old graveyard is in a clump of trees that can be seen from Bellevue but the condition is poor. This graveyard is not to be confused with the family cemetery at Bellevue. Also buried here are John (1842-1848) son of W H Bowman; also Mary B. (1837-1851) the daughter of A & C Oldham.

Following the death in 1824 of John Bowman Jr (who never married) the Bellevue "land" fell heir to three cousins named John Bowman. They were the sons of Jacob, Abraham and Isaac Bowman. The house of Bellevue was inherited in 1824 by John (1787-1873) son of Abraham - it probably grew in size thereafter as he raised his children. John (1770-1848), the son of Jacob, inherited the adjoining tract and home - it was but a stones throw away from the brick home and did not survive - it also had a graveyard. The old stockade of "Bowman Station" was between these home sites but closer to and on today's Bellevue's tract of land.
