George Jr. Bowling was born on April 18, 1929 in Galena, Missouri to Roy and Mae (Cupp) Bowling. He grew up in Missouri and came to work in a Stave Mill in Bellevue when he was 23 years old. This is where he met and married the love of his life, Elinor M. Beaman. They were married on September 12, 1952 in Bellevue, Iowa.

George had worked at Clinton Engines in Maquoketa for over 28 years as line chaser and as a pack line supervisor.

George enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing guitar, and playing cards especially Euchre.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Gilbert, sisters Thelma and Mayme Lee, and a son Kenneth Bowling Sr. on March 23, 2012.
