His father died in 1906.
He taught school for a short time and in January 1904 he with brother George, bought the Pahlman & Enloe stock of merchandise, operating the store for a year,before buying their own building which stands.
A short time later, Charles bought out his brother's interest.
He was postmaster of Hagarstown for 25 years
and took the Bear Grove Twp census in 1900.
He was candidate for the State Legislature in 1916 and acting Justice of the Peace at the time of his death.
Burial was in McInturff Cem.
