Sterling Lee "Snub" Bowers, 83, of Fahrney-Keedy Memorial Home and formerly of Black Rock Road, Hagerstown, died Sunday, September 2, 2007 at the home. Born April 20, 1924 in Black Rock, he was the son of the late Charles Edward and Carrie Edna Fulton Bowers. He was a career veteran retiring from the U.S. Army engineers after 20 years of service. During WWII he was awarded a bronze star and two battle stars. He attended Black Rock Bible Church. He is survived by two sisters, Miriam Madison-Hayden of Surprise, AZ and Helen Stouffer of Hagerstown; one brother, George Bowers of Hagerstown; four nieces and seven nephews; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by four sisters, Shirley Osborne, Ruth Kendle, Ethel Newcomer, and Irene Snyder; and two brothers, David Bowers and Charles Bowers.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, September 6 at Bast Funeral Home in Boonsboro. The Revs. Dennis Sieglaff and Dwight Morgan will officiate. Burial will be in Beaver Creek Cemetery.The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to Black Rock Bible Church, 9646 Crystal Falls Drive, Hagerstown, MD 21740.
