FUNERAL HELD FOR JACOB BOWERS
Funeral services for Jacob Bowers, at the time of his death Nephi's oldest citizen, were conducted in the Juab stake tabernacle Wednesday at 2 P.M.
Speakers at the funeral included: W. A. C. Bryan, Ernest Garrett of Lehi; Roy Pay of Salt Lake City and Robert P. Garrett. Closing remarks were given by Bishop A. E. Smith. The speakers told of the deceased's work in the community and reviewed his work as a pioneer.
Musical numbers included: vocal duet, James and Herman McCune; vocal duet, LeRoy Whitehead and Melba Fowkes; vocal solo, Mrs. Della Barnes; duet, Walter Anderson and A. J. Gowers.
The invocation was offered by Jesse Pay and the benediction by James Garrett Jr. The grave in the Vine Bluff Cemetery was dedicated by Robert P. Garrett.
The deceased was a veteran of the Black Hawk Indian War, and was born in Dudley, England, March 10, 1844. He was the son of James Bowers and Miriah Lay Bowers. When he was twelve years of age he came to Utah with his parents and family. He has resided in Nephi since his arrival here in 1856.
Mr. Bowers married Caroline Goble January 11, 1867. Mrs. Bowers died in 1922.
He is survived by the following children: James, Ether, Henry and Ernest Bowers, and Mrs. Bertha Bowles, Nephi. He is also survived by 21 grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren.
