Killed in action in the Philippines, where he was serving with the American division was First Lt. James Francis Bowersox, according to information received here Tuesday by Helen Smith, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bert Smith of 1339 South High street, to whom the lieutenant's engagement was announced a short time ago.

The officer, formerly stationed at Camp Adair with the 70th division, was killed early in June. A Maryland national guardsman, he was called to active duty in February, 1941, when the guard was mobilized. He was commissioned a second lieutenant in 1943 and received his promotion to first lieutenant while in the Philippines. Bowersox left for overseas duty' in January, 1944.

Surviving the officer are his mother, Mrs. Mary Bowersox of Baltimore, Md.; a sister, Mrs. Wilbur Bangs of Baltimore; and three brothers, Cpl. Charles E. Bowersox, in the European theater, Seaman 2c Joseph Bowersox, stationed in England, and Thomas A. Bowersox with the merchant marines.
