ARTHUR REID BOWERS

Arthur Reid Bowers, 73 a retired paining contractor and farmer from the Tiskilwa area, died Sunday April 29, 1990 at Perry Memorial Hospital in Princeton.

Born January 24, 1917 in Charleston, Ind., to Hallie A. and Geneva Spencer Bowers, he first married Arlene Eckhoff in Tallahassee, Florida, on June 14, 1944. She died in August 1971. Two brothers also preceded him in Death.

He was a lieutenant in the Army Air Force 4th Fighter Group, serving in Europe during World War II. He received the Purple Heart and U.S. Air Medal.

For 28 years, he was a Bureau Service fuel distributor, a painting contractor and a farmer until retiring in 1983.

He was a member of the Tiskilwa Fire Department, Tiskilwa Masonic Lodge, the American Legion and the United Methodist Church of Tiskilwa Yoked Parish.

His second marriage was to Carolyn Sue Hicks, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Dr. James Bowers of Fort Myers, Fla., and Robert of Tiskilwa; one granddaughter; one sister, Mrs. Donald (Geraldine) Downs of Colorado Springs.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the Tiskilwa United Methodist Church with the Rev. Joanne Cook officiating. Burial will be in Mount Bloom Cemetery, where military rites will be conducted at graveside. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Hughes Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the church, Tiskilwa Fire Department, Tiskilwa Ambulance Service and/or a charity of the donor's choice.
