Ruth Lucille Waggoner, 90, of Chanute, Kansas, passed away Sunday, June 13, 2004 at Chanute Health Care Center in Chanute, Kansas.
She was born August 20, 1913, in Rural Chanute, Kansas, the daughter of Fred and Myrtle (Biggs) Bower.
She was one of four children. She was raised in the Chanute area and attended Union Valley Rural Grade School and graduated from Chanute Senior High School.
She was united in marriage to Homer Waggoner on February 26, 1933 in Parsons, Kansas. He preceded her in death.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church, American Baptist Women, Santa Fe Women, a charter member of the Farm Extension Unit, Hospital Auxiliary, served on the Election Board, and the Union Valley Cemetery Board. She was a church youth leader, 4-H leader, a Sunday School teacher and a hostess for the 1998 State Babe Ruth Tournament.
She was an avid homemaker, who always enjoyed opening her home to others. She was well known for baking her homemade pies.
She is survived by two daughters, Sharon Collins of Broken Arrow, OK and Dorothy Haden of Oklahoma City, OK; three sons, Joe Dale Waggoner of Deatsville, AL, Hank Waggoner of Chanute, KS and David Waggoner also of Chanute, KS; sixteen grandchildren; and twenty-three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Homer Waggoner, one son, Bill Waggoner; a granddaughter, Karen Collins; and three sisters, Velma Thielen, Opal Bower and Orpha Bower.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 16, 2004 at the First Baptist Church, with the Reverend Richard Qualls officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery on 14th St. in Chanute, Kansas.
Memorials in her name may be made to the First Baptist Church.
