MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – America Elizabeth Brown Bowen died Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012, at Sunnington Senior Care in Murfreesboro, Tenn. She was born Feb. 14, 1917, in Pontotoc to James Willis Brown and Agnes Carrie Brown. She was married to John H. Bowen. She was a graduate of Pontotoc High School and Blue Mountain College and taught high school English and business. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Pontotoc and was attending the First United Methodist Church in Murfreesboro, Tenn. She enjoyed reading, gardening, spending time with her family, the Pontotoc County Jail Ministry and sharing the Christian message with others.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church in Pontotoc with the Rev. Ken Hester officiating. Burial will follow in the Pontotoc Memorial Gardens. Browning Funeral Home in Pontotoc is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include her daughter, Lucy Bowen Langworthy (Warren) of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; a son, John Michael Bowen of Ft. Worth, Texas; three grandchildren, Megan Langworthy Martin, Lara Langworthy and John Ross Langworthy; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four sisters, Mary Stanford Ball, Sue Stanford Griffin, Louise Brown Wardlaw and Roberta Brown Mathis; and three brothers, Walter Stanford, Robert Brown and Willis Brown.

Pallbearers will be Jim Long, Gerald Waldrop, Bill Wardlaw, Mark Wardlaw, Brad Wardlaw and David Helms.

Visitation will be from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church.
