Florence Bowen, Oct. 24, 1908 - Dec. 12, 2002, Florence BOWEN, 94, died at 9:03 a.m. Thursday at her residence at Grace Retirement Community, Winona Lake. Born in Fulton County, to Oliver and Essie NYE BURNS, she married Oscar BOWEN Oct. 12, 1929, in South Bend. He died Jan. 25, 1985. Mrs. Bowen, a homemaker, was a 1926 Macy High School graduate and graduated from International Business College, Fort Wayne. She was a member of Indiana Farm Bureau, Center United Methodist Church, Silver Lake, and a charter member of the Jolly Good Neighbors Home Extension Club. She came to Kosciusko County from Peru. Survivors include one daughter, Carolyn CHAPPLE and husband Robert, Columbia City; two sons, Robert [BOWEN] and wife Betty, Silver Lake, Rex [BOWEN] and wife Joan, Rochester; five grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one sister, Lena KANE, Louisville, Ky. Preceding in death with her husband were her parents, two sisters, Treva REEVES and Namona CALLOWAY, and one brother, Verl BURNS. Services are at 1 p.m. Monday at Hartzler Funeral Home, Akron, with Rev. Doris SMITH officiating. Burial will be at Akron Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
