Obituary, The Malvern Leader, Malvern, Ia Feb 25, 1926 page 12
Jesse Bowen, the son of James and Flora Bowen, was born Sept 13, 1897, at Glenwood, Iowa. Early in life he parents moved with him to Hastings, Iowa here Jesse grew to manhood, and where he has resided ever since.
On Feb 22, 1922, Jesse Bowen was married to Miss Orpha Pickerel of Hastings Iowa. To this union were born four children, Percy Eugene, Betty Louise, Lavedee Eunice, and Lavine Ellen.
Jesse was never strong and robust in constitution, but a couple of months ago he began to go down hill rapidly, and six weeks ago he underwent an operation, at the Jennie Edmundson hospital, in the hope of prolonging his life a few years. He seemed to be doing quite well until Sunday, Feb 25, he was eating his dinner, when he suddenly passed away.
He leaves to mourn his loss his wife, four baby children, a widowed mother, and a host of friends. His age was 28 years, 5 months and l day.
The funeral was held in the Hastings Church on Thursday, Feb 18, afternoon, with the pastor in charge. The music was furnished by Mr and Mrs Turner and Mr and Mrs C S Anderson, assisted by Mrs Wallahan at the piano.
Burial was at the Hastings cemetery.
