Charles O. Bowen, Sr. 87, died Saturday morning (01-19-02) at the
Hospice of the Golden Isles in Brunswick, Georgia after a short illness.
He was born in Pierce County, son of the late Leonard Bowen. He had
lived most of his life in Ware County before moving to Brantley County
nineteen years ago. He was a retired service station operator and a
member of the Hoboken Baptist Church, the Waycross Masonic Lodge # 305 F
& AM, Waycross Shrine Club, Hasan Temple, Post # 10 American Legion and
the Waycross Exchange Club. He was a veteran of World War Two where he
served with the U. S. Army.
He is survived by his wife Nell Douglas Bowen of Waycross; one son
Charles O. Bowen, Jr. and his wife Frances of Waycross; one daughter
Donna Herrin and her husband Ray of Blackshear, Ga.; his mother Angie
Bowen Ridley of Offerman, Ga.; two brothers Vernon Bowen and his wife
Ethel Maude of Waycross; Lamar Bowen and his wife Catherine of Folkston,
Ga.; one sister Colleen Williamson and her husband Robeert of Offerman,
Ga.; A Special Relative May Bowen Hoover of Fernandina, Beach. Fla.;
five grandchildren, a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon (01-22-02) at two
o'clock in the chapel of the Miles-Odum Funeral Home. Burial will be in
Oakland Cemetery. The Waycross Masonic Lodge # 305 F & AM and the
Waycross Exchange Club will serve as honorary pallbearers and they are
request to gather at the funeral home chapel at 1:30 Tuesday afternoon.
The family will receive friends at the Miles-Odum Funeral Home from
seven until nine o'clock Monday night and have requested that memorials
be given to the Hospice of the Golden Isles, 1692 Glynco Parkway
Brunswick, Georgia 31525.
Miles-Odum Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
