John Thomas "Tommy" Bowen, 97, passed away Nov. 27, 2013. Born Sept. 30, 1916, to the union of Clyde C. and Elda May (Agard) Bowen. Mr. Bowen signed up for the Navy one day after Pearl Harbor was hit and served those years aboard the USS Saint Louis, which was engaged in eight major actions and was hit by torpedoes two times and by kamikazes three times. After the war, he drove an 18-wheeler for AG Grocers. In 1950, Tommy went to work at the Pueblo Army Depot until his retirement in 1974. He will be greatly missed by his family. Tommy was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Alberta and Helen; and his loving wife of 56 years, Rachel Lee Bowen (nee Williams). Survived by his son, Guy (Jeanie) Bowen; his daughter, Elda Lee (Richard) Releford; grandchildren, Craig (Shawnee) Releford, Laureen (John) Franklin, Greg (Ashley) Bowen and Derek (Heather) Bowen; great-grandchildren, Nolan, Rylan and Adelyn; his special companion, Dorothy Wilcox; and special friends, Marsha and Tom Wilcox and family. Memorial service, 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 2, 2013, Holt Family Funeral Home, Canon City, Colo. Arrangements are under the care of Holt Family Funeral Home.
