Mr. Robert Lee Bowen, Jr. age 82 of Blackshear died suddenly early Thursday morning at South East GA Health Systems Camden Campus in St. Mary's Ga. He was a native of Pierce County but had lived many years in St. Mary's before moving back to Pierce County in 1989.

He was preceded in death by his parents the late Robert Lee Bowen Sr. and Ida Rhodenberry Bowen, his wife Josephine Wildes Bowen, 2 sisters Celia Dangerfield and Evelyn Taylor, and a brother Charles Bowen.

Mr. Bowen retired from Gilman Paper Company as a machinist with 34 years of service. He was a member of Southgate Baptist Church. Mr. Bowen served in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Air Force. He was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 70 in Waycross, GA, and a member of the McDonalds Coffee Club in Blackshear.

He is survived by his daughter Marrisia Bowen of St. Mary's GA, a son Dan Bowen wife Laura of Roswell, GA, 2 grandchildren Dr. Bob Bowen of Olympia Washington and Kate Bowen of Omaha, Nebraska, 1 sister Hilda Williamson of Blackshear, and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

A funeral service will be held 3pm Sunday at Southgate Baptist Church. Burial will be in Waters Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6 to8pm at Smith Funeral Home.

The family request that the McDonald's Coffee Club serve as Honorary Pallbearers and are asked to be at the church by 2:45 on Sunday.
