David Len Bowen, Sr., 87, of Greensboro, died Monday, April 28, 2014 at Blumenthal's Nursing Center. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, May 4th, 2014, at Burgaw Cemetery, 200 East Wallace Street, Burgaw, NC. He was born on July 13th, 1926 in Burgaw, NC and was the son of the late Tate E. and Annie Mason Bowen. He graduated from North Carolina State University with a Masters in Entomology and spent most of his career working for the USDA and EPA in Washington D.C. and Raleigh, NC. He was a veteran of the US Army serving during the Korean War. He and his late wife Rachel lived 5 years in Florence, SC, then many years in the Washington D.C. area, later in Raleigh and 20+ years in Wilmington upon retirement. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Wilmington and sang in the choir. He was an active member of the Optimist Club, the Chordsmen, and the Tarheel Chorus. He moved to a retirement home in Greensboro in 2005 to be near his son George and daughter-in-law Ronica. He has also attended Guilford College United Methodist Church in recent years and was a member of the James Tew Sunday School Class. He is survived by his three sons, David, Jr. and wife Wenken Ling of Cambridge, Mass., George and wife Ronica of Greensboro, and Steve of Raleigh; and granddaughters Georgeanna, Sammy (Samantha), Anna, Elizabeth and Abigail. He has several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM-1:00 PM, Saturday, May 3, 2014 at Forbis and Dick, Guilford Chapel, Greensboro, NC.
