Evelyn Ann Balk, 96, of Lawler, died Sunday, Jan. 18, at New Hampton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born Oct. 25, 1912, in rural Winneshiek County, near Protivin, daughter of George and Ida Jirak Bouska. On June 25, 1935, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, she married Leo Ulrich Balk. He died Oct. 9, 1999.
Mrs. Balk and her husband farmed their entire married lives east of Lawler.
Survived by: four sons, Joe and Allen (Neoma), both of Little Turkey, and Melvin and Marvin, both of Lawler; a daughter, Marvelene Schmitt (Jene Smith) of Fort Atkinson; seven grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and seven stepgreat-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by: a son-in-law, Ernest Schmitt; a great-grandson; a brother, Frank Bouska; and a sister, Edna Praska.
Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, Lawler, with burial in St. Rose Cemetery, rural Waucoma. Public visitation from 3 to 7 p.m. today at Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home, Lawler, where there will be a 4 p.m. rosary and a 6 p.m. parish Scripture service. Visitation also for an hour before services Wednesday at the church.
