Obituary from 29 May 2011

Albert D. Bourke who was born in Milford, NH, March 01, 1914, passed away quietly at Crestwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Milford on May 01 where he had been a resident for the past four years. Albert was the last of nine children born to Joseph and Jenny (Vigneault) Bourke of Milford. He was educated and graduated from local schools and after many enterprising jobs as a youth, started working at the square's A&P store, where he soon became the manager. Shortly thereafter he was temporarily transferred to the Greenville store during which time he met his future wife of 68 years, Marie Caron, who predeceased him in 2007. In 1944 he purchased the Bourgeois block with all of its stores, and remained the owner of the property until 1990 whereupon he became the property manager for the new owner.

Albert was very active in the Sacred Heart Parish where he was a member and president of the Holy Name Society; a charter, founder and 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus, and chairman of the Activity and Fund Raising Committee; a member of the parish's advisory board, and between the two parishes of Greenville and Milford, was an usher for 75 years. He was active in local affairs having served on the Business and Civic Committee; a trustee of the Chamberlain Library; a corporator and director of Mason Village Savings Bank and a member of the Mascenic School Building Committee, as well as several other town committees.

In the mid 50s he became a factory representative for Acme Chemical Company and soon became their top producer, as well as trainer and consultant to the board. In the mid 60s he formed his own company, Don Sales, Inc. of which he was the president. His company serviced accounts in NH, VT, ME, MA and NY. He continued in this capacity until he retired at 90.

He was an avid and accomplished golfer and played as much as possible in New Hampshire and at their other home in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Marie and Al enjoyed traveling, especially cruises, and their many friends in both their homes. Al was blessed with an enviable memory and was a local historian of sorts for both Milford and Greenville. He was the only person who still well remembered the last three Civil War veterans in Milford, as he was their newspaperboy.

He leaves a legacy of many accomplishments, awards, friends and will be remembered by many for his undaunted willingness to always help anyone.

He is survived by his son, Donald, of North Miami Beach, FL; a niece, Sr. Helen Burke of Manchester; two nephews, Peter (and Pauline) Comolli of Naples, Fl and Raymond (and Elaine) Comolli of Rotunta West, FL.

Memorial Masses were held at Sacred Heart, Greenville and St. Patrick's, Milford with interment in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Milford.

Any donations can be made in his honor to St. Anselm College, 100 St. Anselm Drive, Manchester, NH 03102.
