English actor and threatre manager. He was perhaps most famous for roles both in Classical drama, notably Shakespeare, and plays by Gilbert and Sullivan, Anthony hope and Alfred Sutro. He also founded Oxford University Dramatic Society and was manager of the Royalty and Garrick Threatres. Born in Speen, Berkshire, the only son of Captain Charles Bourchier and wife Fanny, he was educated at Eton and Christchurch, Oxford, where he developed an interest in acting. In 1889, he played Jaques, with Lillie Langtry in "As You Like It" and later as Robin hood in Alfred Tennyson's "The Forresters". He had a notable success as the title character in "Henry VIII" and in 1902, appeared in command performances before King Edward VII, in "Dr Johnson" at Sandringham and the "Merchant of Venice" at Windsor.
