Elizabeth Laura Bouldin aka Betty was the 4th born child, 2nd daughter, of 9 children born to Richard Clark Bouldin b.4 Feb 1813 in Virginia & d.4 Oct 1896 in Burkesville, Cumberland Co., KY and to Nancy Farris/Faris b.1 May 1811 in Washington, Rappahannock Co., VA & d.17 Apr 1850 in Cumberland Co., KY and who were married 20 Jul 1832 in Washington, Smyth County, VA.

Betty married Robert S. Akin, according to the 1900 census, abt 1862. Marriage records for this period in Burkesville are not available because Tennessee raiders, during this Civil War period, burned the courthouse and destroyed the marriage records for this period in time.

Robert S. Akin was b.4 May 1839 in Burkesville, Cumberland Co., Ky & d.4 Jul 1902 in Van Alstyne, Grayson Co., TX.

Robert and Betty had 8 children. They were:

1. William Clark Akin b.28 Apr 1868 in Burkesville, Cumberland Co., KY & d.6 Jan 1947 in Lone Oak, Hunt Co., TX.
Married: Martha J. Bailey abt 1896.

2. Oleander Herschel Akin b.18 Aug 1870 in Burkesville, Cumberland Co., KY & d.13 Jul 1937 in Lubbock, Lubbock Co., TX.
Married: Minnie C. Wilson on 8 Jan 1895 in Grayson Co., TX

Note: On the Death Certificate of O. H. Akin, his spouse, Minnie, reported 1867 as his birth date, the gravestone is certainly incorrect listing 1876. Most likely he was born in 1870.

3. Nancy Susan Akin b.20 Jul 1872 in Burkesville, Cumberland Co., KY & d.11 Feb 1948 in Fannin Co., TX
Married: Isaiah Z. Bailey abt 1893.

4. Laura Ruth Akin b.Feb 1874 in Burkesville, Cumberland Co., KY & d.26 Feb 1950 in Slaton, Lubbock Co., TX.
Married: Thomas Logan Reed on 23 May 1907 in Grayson County, TX.

5. Florence Wicklif Akin aka Wick b.8 Jun 1877 in Burkesville, Cumberland Co., KY & d.3 Jan 1953 in Dallas, Dallas Co., TX.
Married: Mattie Jane Roper on 4 Mar 1911 in Grayson Co., TX

6. Joseph Akin b.abt 1878 in Burkesville, Cumberland Co., KY & d.Unknown

7. Edd Bob Akin aka Eddy b.8 Oct 1879 in Burkesville, Cumberland Co., KY & d.Unknown
Married: Bertie (Unknown)

8. Henry Finis Akin b.22 Jun 1882 in Burkesville, Cumberland Co., KY & d.31 Dec 1937 in Dallas, Dallas Co., TX.
Married: Julia Ann Hestand abt 1904

It is possible the first three children married in Tennessee as the family moved through that area until they decided to move on to Texas.

Another of the pioneer women of this community entered into rest when Mrs. Betty Akin, 85, passed away last Saturday at her home 3 1/2 miles East of Van Alstyne. Mrs. Akin was born in the State of Kentucky as Miss Bettie L. Bouldin in 1839. On October 25, 1866, she was married to Robert S. Akin. To this union were born eight children, seven of whom are living, one having died in infancy. The surviving children are: Clarke Akin, of Leonard; Hershel Akin, Lubbock; Mrs. Laura Reed, Slaton; Ed Akin, Wyeke Akin and Mrs. Sue Bailey, Van Alstyne; Finis Akin, Martins Mill, Texas.

There are also 32 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
Mrs. Akin moved to Texas a few years after her marriage and has made her home in this State since that time. Mr. Akin passed into rest on July 3, 1902, since which time, and until her death, Mrs. Akin has continued her residence in this community, her years in the evening of life made happy by the care and comforting presence of her family and the companionship of her friends.

In the passing of Mrs. Akin, another of the women who were active in the days of the pioneers has gone to rest. Hers was one of these splendid characters whose influence was powerful in planting the seed of the magnificent civilization which we have today and making possible the great section in which we live.

Early in life, Mrs. Akin was converted and united with the Methodist church, of which body she remained a faithful and devoted member until her death.

Funeral services were held at Cannon last Sunday, conducted by Rev. R.C.Hicks, pastor of the First Methodist church. The services were very impressive, and were largely attended by sorrowing friends from all over the co0mmunity. Interment was had at the Cannon cemetery.
To the bereaved family and relatives, the sympathy of the people of this community goes out.
