Albert Dale "Pudge" Botz, 70, Bismarck, died Dec. 15, 2012, at Sanford Health.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 20, at Bismarck Funeral Home with a viewing one hour prior to the service.
Burial will be held at McClusky Cemetery with military honors.
Pudge was born in Minot to Allyn "Fritz" and Jean Botz, of Granville, on April 30, 1942. He graduated from Granville High School in 1960. His mom was the first-grade teacher — so while waiting for her to go home, he practiced his basketball skills and was one of Granville's highest scorers in his high school years.
After graduation, he signed up and served in the Navy from 1960-64, surviving a typhoon in Guam while he was stationed there. After an honorable discharge in 1964, he went to work with his dad and brother, Bob, working for Igoe & Sons. While working for them, he helped in the building of I-94.
He married Diane Morrel in 1966 and from this marriage, Angela Marie and Brad Allyn were born. They divorced in 1971.
In 1973, Pudge became partners with John Feist and they shingled many homes in the Bismarck-Mandan and surrounding area for countless contractors.
He met Gladys Rittenbach in 1973 and they married in 1979. They made their home in Bismarck and added two sons, Bryan and Michael, to the family.
In 1981, Pudge worked for Annco, Inc., building bridges, until they sold the business. He then worked with Wanzek, out of Fargo, building bridges and box culverts up and down every highway in North Dakota. Because of his health, he took an early retirement when his COPD got so bad.
He is survived by his wife, Gladys; his children, daughter, Angela (Mark) Netterfeld, Big Piney, Wyo., and her son, Matthew (Misty) and great-grandbabies, Zoe, MJ and Zane; and his sons, Brad Allyn, Bismarck, and his daughter, Hayley, Bryan Eugene, Fargo, and his son, Alexander, and Michael James (Amy), Wahpeton; his sister, Sandra Jean Kerr, Grand Forks, and her two sons; and his brothers, Robert Allyn (Rhea) and family and Bradley Jay (Jane), Hays, Kan., and family.
Pudges call to heaven was too strong and his body surrendered. His soul is at peace now with his family and friends who have passed before him, his parents, Allyn "Fritz" and Jean Botz; his brothers-in-law, Ralph Kerr and Carl and Justina Rittenbach; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law.
Pudge was loved by all who knew him and will be remembered for his generosity, his easy going manner, and for a little guy — a powerful hand shake, but most of all his jokes and mischievous smile and nature.
