Dr. Charles L. Botkin, 94, a practicing physician since 1904, died Thursday afternoon at Woodland Nursing Home after an extended illness.
A graduate of Indiana Medical College in Indianapolis, he practiced medicine in Farmland for 20 years before moving to Muncie in 1924 where he maintained his practice until his retirement in 1939.
After his retirement he and Mrs. Botkin spent the winters in Hollywood, Fla., and the summers on St. Joseph Island, Ontario, Canada.
Dr. Botkin was born in Unionport, Randolph County, the son of Thomas and Anna Irvin Botkin. He graduated from Winchester High School before entering medical school.
Dr. Botkin was a member of High Street United Methodist Church, the Masonic Lodge at Farmland, Scottish Rite, Valley of Indianapolis, and Murat Shrine.
He was a member of Delaware-Blackford County Medical Society, Indiana State Medical Society, American Medical Association, and American Society of Dermatologists.
Surviving are two sons, Dr. Tom Botkin and Dr. Clyde Botkin, both of Muncie; four grandchildren, Mrs. Gary Wheeler and Miss Susan Botkin, both of Muncie, Second Lieut. Charles T. Botkin and Second Lieut. William F. Botkin, both U.S. Marine Corps, Quantico, Va.; a foster grandson, Charles L. Cook, Muncie; and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at the Meeks Mortuary 1:30 p.m. Tuesday with Dr. S. Walton Cole, pastor of High Street United Methodist Church, officiating. Cremation will follow. There will be no calling hours.
Memorials may be sent to Delaware County Cancer Society or Delaware County Heart Association.
