Jeremiah Botkin was born in Harrison County, (West) Virginia on October 31, 1784, son of Charles and Jemima (Curl) Bodkin.

He married Anna "Nancy" Ellsworth, daughter of Moses and Mary (Bumgardner) Ellsworth, in Warren County, Ohio, on December 6, 1806.
