"FORMER CHEROKEAN IS DEAD AT OMAHA - DEWITT C. BOTHWELL SUCCUMBS TO PNEUMONIA - Was Engaged In the Jewelry Business Here When the Town Was In Its Infancy.

The old residents of Cherokee will learn with regret of the death of DeWitt C. Bothwell, who was a resident of Cherokee in the early days of the town's history. He passed away suddenly at his home in Omaha at 12 o'clock on Tuesday, May 10.

The news came in a telegram to E. D. Huxford from a son-in-law of the deceased. Mr. Huxford's mother, Mrs. Mary B. Huxford, who is now making her home in Omaha, is a sister of Mr. Bothwell. He was sick but a few days, his death resulting from an acute attack of pneumonia. For several years Mr. Bothwell was engaged in the jewelry business here. [blurred text] ...expert engraver and for many years has been the leader in that line in Omaha. He left Cherokee and located in Omaha about the year 1878 or 1879. Besides his wife he leaves a son and a daughter, both married, also a brother in Omaha and one in Michigan. He was about 61 or 62 years of age at the time of his death." Obituary: The Bee; Omaha,Wednesday, May 11, 1910 - page 2: "Death Record - D. C. Bothwell - Dewitt C. Bothwell, aged 61 years, died Tuesday noon of pneumonia after a week's illness. He is survived by two children, Charles A., and Mrs. H. F. Trumble, and by a step-son, John T. Cooper. He came to Omaha in 1880, and has been in the engraving business ever since. The funeral will probably be Thursday afternoon, and will be in charge of Rev. T. J. McKay of All Saints church."
