Eugene J. "Gene" Bossie, 72, of Main Street died Oct. 29 at his home. He was born at Portage Lake, a son of Joseph and Louise Legassie Bossie.
Mr. Bossie enlisted in the Army, served during World War II and was honorably discharged as a corporal. After completing his military service, he moved to Millinocket and in 1953 to Van Buren.
He worked for the Department of Defense at Loring Air Force Base for 28 years, retiring in 1989.
Mr. Bossie was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed playing golf for many years. His favorite sports were hunting and fishing. He also bowled with the local bowling league for many years and participated in the over-40 softball league.
He was an active member of the Levasseur Farrell American Legion Post of Van Buren, where he served as post historian, sergeant-at-arms and in other offices. He was also an honorary member and past commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Van Buren and a member of the St. John Valley Chapter of the Disabled American Veterans.
Surviving are two sons, Thomas of Casco and David of Saco; four daughters, Mrs. Philip (Kathy) Healey of Millinocket, Susan Bossie of Van Buren, Mrs. Claude (Gail) Chabre of Calais and Mrs. Mark (Carrie) Wall of Windham; three brothers, Gerald and Larry, both of Rockville, Conn., and Reginald of Fort Kent; two sisters, Norma Caldwell and Aldene Saucier, both of Rockville, Conn.; and seven grandchildren.
