Antonia S. Borunda, 77, a lifelong resident of Fierro and Bayard, died Sunday at Gila Regional Medical Center. She was born Dec. 23, 1919, in El Paso, Texas, to Jose and Manuela Sanchez. She was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Bayard. Her favorite pastime was going to play bingo almost every day with her many friends. She enjoyed going for long walks and visiting with everyone any chance she got. Calling hours will be from 4-7 this evening at Baca's Funeral Chapels. The prayer vigil will be held tonight at 7 at Baca's Funeral Chapels with Deacon Johnnie Perez reciting the rosary. The funeral liturgy will be celebrated Thursday morning at 11:30 at Our Lady of Fatima in Bayard with Father Rafael Arano officiating. Interment will follow at the Fierro Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Don Boger, Ronnie Borunda, David Borunda Jr., Freddy Borunda Jr., Stevie Gonzales Jr., Adam Gonzales, and Esequiel "Odig" Borunda. Honorary pallbearers are her granddaughters, Elizabeth Zazueta, Annette Gonzales, Josie Borunda, Dianna Borunda, Sabrina Borunda, and all her many nieces and nephews. Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Santos Borunda; two daughters, Lupe Borunda of Bayard and Julia Gonzales of Silver City; three Sons, Jose Borunda and his wife, Rebecca, of San Manuel Ariz., Freddy F. Borunda and his wife, Teresa, of San Manuel, and Larry Borunda and his wife, Tammy, of Fierro; a sister, Lupe Sedillos of Bayard; a brother-in-law, Jimmy Borunda of Fierro; two sisters-in-law, Juana Madrid and husband, Freddy, of Bayard, and Belen Mufliz and husband, Bias, of Grants; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother and father; nine brothers; one sister; a son, David Borunda.
