4 Dec 2006: Elmira L. (Bortner) Bentz, 91, passed away Saturday, December 2, 2006, at Rest Haven in York. She was the wife of Elwood L. Bentz, who died June 17, 1989. Mrs. Bentz was born May 20, 1915, in York, to the late Elmer C. and Nora I. (Hunt) Bortner, Sr. Elmira worked in retail sales at West York Pharmacy, retiring in 1987. She was a 70 year member of Shiloh United Church of Christ. She was a 52 year member of Order of Eastern Star, past Matron and former member of White Schrine of Jerruselum. Mrs. Bentz was also a charter member of Dover Lioness Club. She is survived by two daughters, Julene M. Bechtel and her husband, Raymond, and Verla E. Gosnell and her husband, Edward, all of York; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; brother Elmer C. Bornter, Jr.; and sister Idella T. Keener, both of York. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters. Service Wednesday at Shiloh United Church of Christ, York, her pastor, Rev. David E. Roe, officiating. Final resting place in Shiloh Cemetery. [York Daily Record]
