Mrs. Laura Baker died Saturday afternoon, August 2, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Emil Score, after an illness of about three months.
Laura Belle Bortle, daughter of Phillip James and Mary Clark Bortle was born in Trempealeau county Feb 6, 1867, where she spent most of her childhood. At the age of 12 years she came with her parents to Hay Creek in the town of Wilson, Dunn county.
On April 2, 1888 she was united in marriage to Elnathan Baker. She lived in the town of Sand Creek until 1894 when she to the town of Hay River first residing at Lochiel and later moving to Clover Valley where she made her home until her death.
She was preceded in death by her husband, one daughter, and four sons. Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Myra Renken, Rice Lake and Mrs. Addie Hawkes, Eau Claire, four sons, Leonard, Silver Lake, Lawrence, Sacramento, Calif, Victor, Pembine, and George, Woodstock, Ill., three daughters, Maybelle, Mrs. Malcom Gorgan, Clayton, Hettie, Mrs. Emil Score, Wheeler and Minta, Mrs. Ingwald Score, Newport, Minn. also 42 grandchildren and 52 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at the Hay River Lutheran church August 6. Interment was at the Hay River cemetery.
