Alonzo J. Borthwick, whose death occurred at his home in Freetown, July 13, 1905, was born in the town of Broom, Schobarie Co. N. Y., July 29, 1833. He was the oldest of five children born to George G. and Emeline Whitman Borthwick. ... His great grandfather Alonzo J came from Scotland to America in 1773. When Alonzo was 2 1/2 years old his parents move to Freetown and settled upon the farm where the family now reside. Jan. 18, 1863, he was united in marriage with Nancy M. Bates of Cortland, who survives him. Two children were born of this union Frank Eldorado, who died in early infancy and Frankline E the younger, who spent his single and married live at home with his parents. ... In January last he was taken seriously ill ... but rallied until Monday of last week. The funeral was held from his late home and from the Baptist church on Saturday. The remains were laid in the Marathon Cemetery. ... then it lists about 1/2 the town people of Freetown that attended the services.
