1916 - 2005 Clara Jane Niemczyk, 88, of Aurora died peacefully at home on Wednesday following a brief illness. A first-generation American of Polish descent, Mrs. Niemczyk was born August 3, 1916 in Chicago, where she lived and worked for more than 75 years. Clara's gentle spirit found early expression in playing the violin, and her deep love of music continued throughout her life. In later years she enjoyed knitting, fishing, traveling and dancing. She also loved playing cards, especially a good game of Pinochle. As a young wife and mother, she worked alongside her husband, Matthew; together they owned and managed several neighborhood grocery stores in their south Chicago neighborhood. In 1960, Clara went to work as an internal auditor for the University of Chicago, a position she held for 25 years until her retirement in 1985. In 1993, Clara moved to Fox Knoll in Aurora, where she made her home until her death. Always possessing an abiding love for family and a heartfelt need to be of service, Clara was active as a volunteer at Family Counseling Service in Aurora where her granddaughter, Elizabeth Davy, is Clinical Director. Elizabeth fondly recalls being lovingly teased by colleagues who said it must have been nice to have someone call her "sweetheart" at work. Every person whose life path crossed Clara's thought she was the sweetest person they had ever met. Her generosity of heart and gentleness of spirit will be treasured memories for all whom Clara touched with her presence. Clara was the beloved mother of Aurie Davy and Matthew (Sally) Jablonski; loving grandmother of Elizabeth Davy, Laura (Don) Krug, Lisa (Jeff) Day, Aimee (Mike) Blake and Michael Jablonski; loving great grandmother of Paige, Sara, Tessa, Evan, Jackson and Taylor; and dear Ted, Matthew and Ben Borowski; and a granddaughter, Camille Davy.
