Alfons Borowski born in Poland in 1913 to Ludwig Borowski and Emilia Lulewicz.

He was among the unfortunate Polish population deported from the Soviet-occuppied territories to a prison-camp Siberia.

Alfons served in the Polish 3rd Carpathian Rifle Division (Polish: 3 Dywizja Strzelców Karpackich, sometimes translated as 3rd Carpathian Infantry Division), an Allied unit fighting during World War II on the Italian Front. It was formed in 1942 of the Polish Independent Carpathian Brigade and the forces of General Władysław Anders' 2nd Polish Corps evacuated from the USSR.

The division participated in the North African and the Italian Campaigns (1941-1945) as part of the British Eighth Army. Notable actions include the victories in the Battle of Monte Cassino, Ancona and Bologna. Disbanded after the war, most soldiers chose not to return to the new, Communist Poland.

It was at a displaced persons camp that he met his future bride, Stanislawa (Stella) Zaba. Alfons and Stanislawa were married in Flossenburg, Germany on May 25, 1946.

Their first daughter, Helena Eva, was born in Tirschenreuth, Austria. One year later, in 1948, their son, Czeszaw (Chester), was born in Amberg, Germany.

Alfons and Stanislawa immigrated to the U.S. in 1949 - they arrived on the USS General Hershey at Ellis Isle, New York. The small family was sponsored by a catholic church in Florissant, Missouri where Alfons worked as a farmhand. He was quite the handyman and was very good at carpentry work.

In 1951, their youngest daughter, Elizabeth Mary was born. Later, the Borowskis moved to St. Louis, where Helena, Chester, and Elizabeth grew up and went to school.

Alfons loved to hunt and fish and was extremely good at fixing and making things with his hands.

On April 27, 1977 he passed away at the age of 63, survived by his wife, three children and seven grandchildren.
