RUTH E. BEER
Ruth E. Beer, 71, Berne, died at 10:05 a.m. Saturday in Swiss Village of Alzheimer's Disease. She formerly co-owned two well-known Berne businesses: Habit Cleaners and The Fashion women's clothing store.
She was born in Adams County on September 5, 1918 to Edward and Anna Kolter Borne and married Ralph Beer on January 16, 1942; he survives. She was a longtime member of Cross United Church of Christ, Berne, and its Dorcas Circle and Chancel Choir.
Other survivors are two daughters: Mrs. Skip (Sherill) Handy, Fort Wayne, and Mrs. Gregory (Deborah) Stewart, Berne; two sons, Randy Beer, Berne a member of Adams County Council, and Richard Beer, Wells, Maine; one sister, Mrs. Doyle (Mary) Franz, Payson, Arizona; three brothers, Roger Borne, 410 Stratton Way; Leo Borne, Clearwater, Florida, and Glen Borne, Long Beach, California and seven grandchildren.
Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Cross United Church of Christ, Dr. William Huenemann officiating. Burial will be in MRE Cemetery. Visiting hours are 2-9 p.m. today at Yager-Kirchhofer Funeral Home, Berne and 9-10 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Preferred memorials are to the church or the Alzheimer's Association.
