Vincent Boreing
Birth: Nov. 24, 1839
Death: Sep. 16, 1903

US Congressman. Born in Jonesboro, Tennessee, he was a lawyer in Kentucky at the out break of the Civil War. He enlisted in the Union Army, serving as Private in Company A, of the Company A, 24th Regiment Kentucky Infantry and was commissioned a 1st Lieutenant for meritorious conduct. After the war, he served as the Kentucky London County Superintendent of Public Schools (1868-72) and established the "Mountain Echo", the first newspaper published in southeastern Kentucky. He served as a county judge in 1886, president of the First National Bank of London in 1888 and was the Department Commander of the Grand Army of the Republic in Kentucky. In 1889, he was elected as a Republican to the Fifty-sixth Congress and to the next two succeeding Congresses, serving until his death at age 63. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
