Enlisted in Co 'I' 39th AL Inf on Mar 10, 1862 at Clayton, AL under Whit Clark. He was wounded near Shelbyville, TN on Dec 31, 1862. The 39th, 22nd, 25th & 50th regiments were consolidated in April 1865, forming the new 22nd regiment. He was at Greensboro, NC at the end of the war in Co 'G' 22nd AL Inf. CSA.and paroled on May 1, 1865. His name is shown as Augustin S., Augustus S., and A. S.

He enlisted as a private later Sgt in Company I, 39th Alabama Infantry. He is buried in the Clayton City Cemetery Barbour County.
