Anthony "Tony" N. Boots, 72, of Niles, MI, formerly of Pine Village and Merrillville, passed away in the early morning hours of Sunday, April 14, 2013. Tony was born on Dec. 6, 1940 in Muncie, IN, to James "Homer" and Minnie "Kathryn" Cheney Boots. He graduated from Hartford City High School in 1958 and earned his B.S. in Music Education from Indiana State University in 1962. Tony later earned his M.S. Degree from Ball State University. Tony married Diana Dalzell, a Bicknell, IN native, on July 22, 1962. They divorced in 1992, after 30 years of marriage.
Tony taught music and band for two and a half decades in Indiana, in Mishawaka, Harlan, and Pine Village, while finishing his teaching career at Hershey Elementary (TSC). He retired from teaching because of health problems. Tony loved the outdoors, with fishing being his primary passion. He enjoyed playing cards, reading, and singing. He served as drum major for the Hartford City H.S. Marching Band. Tony was a member of MENC at Indiana State and played French horn in both the I.S.U. Orchestra and the Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra. While living in Pine Village, Tony attended the P.V. United Methodist Church. While living in Merrillville, he attended multiple churches as his health allowed.
Tony is survived by a son, Thomas N. Boots (wife: Lisa) of Lafayette; a daughter, Denise L. Jamerson (husband: Alan) of Merrillville; two brothers, James H. Boots (wife: Mary Beth) of Hudson, WI and Richard A. Boots of Hartford City, IN. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Ashley Jamerson, Austin Jamerson, and Megan Wells, and his former wife, Diana Boots, of Pine Village. Tony was preceded in death by his father, James Homer Boots, his mother, M. Kathryn Boots, and two brothers, Gerald and Ronald Boots. Following a Private Ceremony, Tony will rest peacefully in Tippecanoe Memory Gardens in West Lafayette, IN.
