A distant relative of Daniel Boone through her marriage, Alice passed away of natural causes at a Sonora care home.
Daughter of Joseph William Nasheau of Mariposa & Elizabeth Ann Thompson of Knights Ferry. Her grandfather owned and operated the original ferry there.
She lost her mother as a young girl and lived with various family members in Angels Camp, Fresno, Stockton and Modesto before settling in Tuolumne, where she met her husband, Tan Williamson Boone. They were married on Nov. 24, 1929.
She was a lifetime member of the Native Daughters of the Golden West, an accomplished artist and genealogist who traced the roots of Boone family back to 760 AD.
She organized the "Boone Family Annual Picnic," which brought together people from all over the United States. The first picnic was held in Mariposa in June 1967. The gatherings were then held for the next 30 years at the Boone family property in Columbia, with "Boone Park" built by her sons especially for the occasion.
The Boone Family Association, with 250 members nationwide, was a big part of her life.
She spent her years between two small towns, Chilcoot, Plumas County, and Columbia.
She and Tan raised their family in Chilcoot before bringing them back to Tuolumne County. They brought along their family business, J.M. Boone and Sons, which originated in Missouri in 1880.
Summers were spent in Chilcoot, joined by extended family and friends, with no televisions or telephones.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Tan, in 1998, a daughter, Alice "Shamrock" Boone in 1968, and two granddaughters, Rebecca Boone in 1962 and Tani Hicks in 1982.
In 1971, the Boone family reunion included 50 descendants of George Boone, the grandfather of the famous pioneer, Daniel Boone. Guests from all over California attended.
