Below is a message from Portman Properties:

Dear Colleagues,

It is with profound sadness that we share that Don Boone, a treasured retired Portman colleague, passed away on Monday, March 7, 2016, after an extended illness. “Boone,” as he liked to be called, worked for the Portman organization and was Mr. Portman’s Security and Personal Driver for over 45 years. He began his career as a City of Atlanta Police Officer before coming to work for Portman full-time. Over the years, Boone became a high-profile and much beloved Atlanta celebrity in his own right. There was not a place in the metro area he frequented where he didn’t know the person in charge and they knew him. He could always be heard in his characteristic greeting to all of the people who recognized and waved to him: ‘Well, hello there, young fella/lady!’ Boone will be dearly missed by everyone who knew him.

Cremation was handled by Georgia Cremations Centers. His ashes were buried with his wife Laura Boone at Rebels Creek Cemetery, Boonford, Bakersville, N C.
