Catherine P. (Bontz) Runyon, 79, of Vandalia, Mo., passed away unexpectedly at 9:47 p.m. on Thursday, April 18, 2013, at the Hannibal Regional Hospital.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 23, 2013, at Waters Funeral Chapel. Officiating will be Pastor Jamie Franke. Interment will be at the Vandalia Cemetery.

She was a lifelong resident of the Vandalia area. Catherine worked at the International Shoe Factory in Vandalia for several years and then the Bobby Brooks Garment Factory.

She started working at the Tri-County Care Center and worked as a CNA and MedTech there for many years, retiring in 2012.

Catherine was a member of the First Christian Church in Vandalia, where she taught Sunday School, Bible School and worked in the nursery. She enjoyed flowers, gardening, canning, watching QVC, Cardinal ball games and she was an avid reader.

She was born December 23, 1933, in rural Ralls County north of Vandalia, the daughter of Herman Leslie and Willie Faye BENN BONTZ.

She married Joseph A. Runyon on December 1, 1951, in Hannibal, Missouri; he preceded her in death on May 26, 1994.

Survivors include three sons; one sister and husband; seven grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joseph A.; one daughter, Cathy Jo RUNYON, who died during childbirth; and three brothers, James E. BONTZ, Eugene L. BONTZ and Floyd F. BONTZ.
