SPRINGFIELD - Andrew John Bono, 80, of Springfield died at 9:10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 27, 2009, at St. John's Hospice.
He was born Oct. 23, 1929, in Springfield, the son of Jack and Jennie Greco Bono. He married Ura Lovene Sapp on Dec. 27, 1963.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Ura Lovene Bono of Springfield; three daughters, Gina (John) Rexroat of Lincoln, Mindy (Mark) Hospenthal of Scottsdale, Ariz. and stepdaughter, Starr L. (Jim) Wright of Springfield; a stepson, Kim R. (Pam) Schlicht of Pleasant Plains; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Rosemary (Tom) Sapp of Springfield; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Andrew was a lifelong resident of Springfield.
He was a self-employed auctioneer. He owned South Grand Avenue Furniture and retired from the state of Illinois in 1997.
Andrew was a member of St. John Vianney Church. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a charter member of the Roman Cultural Society, a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the VFW. He was an avid golfer and bridge player.
A memorial gathering will be held 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, November 30, 2009, at Staab Funeral Home with prayers at 4 p.m. A gathering will be held at 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 1, 2009, until the time of Mass at St. John Vianney Church in Sherman. A memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, December 1, 2009, at St. John Vianney Church, with Msgr. Carl Kemme officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, where military honors will be conducted.
Memorials may be made to St. John's Hospice, St. John Vianney Church or St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
