Velma Sarah Schmidt, 75, a former resident of Okmulgee, died Saturday, August 21, 2004 in Lindsay, Oklahoma. She was born Saturday, may 26, 1929 in Wheatland, Missouri to Raymond and Mattie (Ashing) Bonham. On May 13, 1949, she married Billy James Schmidt, Sr. in Ft. Smith, Arkansas. She attended Harvest Christian Center and was a health care provider in Okmulgee for many years. She was a sponsor for the St. Judes Children Cancer Center and loved going to church and gardening. She was loved and will be missed very much.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, two sisters, one granddaughter, Ronelle Han and one great grandson, Justyn Lee King.
Survivors include: husband, Billy of the home; four daughters: Ann Jacob and husband, Nelson of Preston; Rosetta Han and husband, Robert of Okmulgee; Loretta Porter and husband, Dennis of Capitan, New Mexico and Connie Lewis and husband, John of Bray, Ok; two sons: Billy James Schmidt, Jr. and wife, Faye of Bradley, Ok and Johnny Schmidt and wife, Jennifer of California; two sisters: Hazel Bonham of Okmulgee and Mildred McCullar of Antlers, Ok; sixteen grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren.
Services will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 24, 2004 at the Harvest Christian Center with Reverend Paul Ramsey officiating. Burial will follow at the Okmulgee Cemetery under the direction of the Shurden-Kelley Funeral Home in Okmulgee.
Pallbearers will be granddaughter and grandsons: Billy Joe Scoggins, James Levi Scoggins, J.T. Lewis, Ross Han and Laura King.
