Marguerite Stewart Bonds, 99, of Clifton, died March 25, 2009, in El Paso. Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Monday, March 30, in the Clifton Funeral Home Chapel. Burial to follow at the Smith Bend-Coon Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Marguerite was born in China Spring, Texas, to the late Emory and Bessie Bain Stewart. Her family moved to Walnut Springs in 1911, when she was two. Her father was a farmer and she grew up in the Walnut Springs area attending and graduating from Walnut Springs schools. She received a BA from North Texas State Teacher's College, a Master's from Baylor University, and a master's in Library Science from Baylor. She taught in Bosque County schools, including Walnut Springs, Clifton, and Valley Mills, for 36 years before retiring in 1972, due to her husband's illness. She had married Marshall Bonds in 1949 and they lived on his ranch in the Coon Creek Community where she resided until his death in 1997. She was active in the Coon Creek Methodist and Baptist churches, her husband being a devote Methodist and she being a devout Baptist. She was also active in the Coon Creek Good Neighbor Club, Bosque County Historical Society, Bosque County Retired Teachers, and Delta Kappa Gamma. She and her sister, Rebecca, were proud members of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She did extensive work and research on the book, "Bosque County: Land and People."

She loved her family, plus reading, teaching, watching Marshall's horses, being involved in the community and church and life in general. She believed as she wrote in the Bosque County book "All in all, it's a great life when one lives it in Bosque County."

She was preceded in death by her husband, Marshall V. Bonds; and sisters, Rebecca Williams and Nell Falkingham.

Survivors include her son, Russell Dehn Wilbanks Jr. and wife, Gwen, of Sierra Blanca, Texas; grandson, Russell D. Wilbanks and wife, D'Ann, of Harper; other relatives and many friends.
