The son of Elizabeth Bond, in 1860 he was a blacksmith living in Hopewell Township, York County, Pennsylvania. He stood 5' 6" tall and had brown hair and gray eyes.
A Civil War veteran, he was drafted in York County November 9, 1862, mustered into federal service at York November 11 as a private with Co. I, 166th Pennsylvania Infantry, promoted to corporal, date unknown, and to sergeant December 21, 1862, and honorably discharged with his company July 25, 1863, in York. He also enlisted in York February 20, 1864, mustered into federal service at Harrisburg February 27 as a private with Battery F, 3rd Pennsylvania Heavy Artillery (152nd Pa), and honorably discharged with his company November 9, 1865.
He married Elizabeth Hedrick September 29, 1859, in Hopewell Township, York County, and fathered Charles Wilford (b. 03/28/61). I 1890, he lived in York Borough, York County, where he died at his son Charle's home.
