ADA BOND DIES
Mrs. Ada Poore Bond, died at 3:30 a.m. Tuesday at Community. Ill for some time and a patient at the hospital for the past 5 weeks. She was aged 83 years and 4 days.
Born Aug. 28, 1870 near Staunton, decedent was a daughter of the late James and Harriet (Jarman) Poore. She was married to Charles Bond on Oct. 4, 1891 in Dorchester. She resided in Staunton and vicinty most of her life and was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Edwardsville. Mr. Bond died in Sept. 1948.
Survived by 4 sons, Benjamin Bond of Greenville, Edward Bond of Staunton, Charles Tilden Bond of Worden, Nelson Bond of Meadowbrook; 4 daughters, Mrs. Elzada Shields of Peoria, Mrs. Lela Miller of Canton, Mrs. Julia Witt of Meadowbrook, and Miss Katherine Bond at home. She also leaves 17 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Thursday. Rev. N.G. Mathenia, pastor of the Assembly of God Church, officiated.
Burial was in Staunton City Cemetery.
Ada was born to William & Eleanor "Ellen" (Jarman) Dunbar. Eleanor died November 6, 1875 in Knobview, Crawford County, Missouri. Ada was only 5 years old. Ada's father, William Dunbar, brought Ada back to Illinois (on horseback) to her grandparent's Ezekiel & Bethana (Sawyer) Jarman. Eleanor's sister and husband, Harriet & James Pore/Poore raised Ada as their own. It is not known if Ada was adopted by the couple, but she was given the Pore/Poore name. Ada did not know any of this until after she was married with children of her own.
