Union Civil War Sailor and Soldier. The son of Samuel Bolser (1805-1854) and Hannah Coughlin. He was born on September 6, 1846 in Cincinnati, Ohio. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy on March 21, 1863 in Cincinnati, Ohio, mustering in on the USS Clara Dolsen. He served for two years with the rank of 1st Class Boy, and mustered out while serviing on the river gunboat USS Exchange. He was honorably discharged on March 20, 1865 at the mouth of the White River, Mississippi. Several weeks later he enlisted with the 5th Regiment of the Ohio Cavalry, serving from April 4, 1865 until he mustered out on May 15, 1865 in Harts Island, New York harbor. He held the rank of Private. Invalid pension file #22.936. Widow pension file 18.328.
He married Cordelia Griffin Johnson on August 1, 1871 in Cincinnati, Ohio. They had seven children: Joseph Robert Bolser, Charles Samuel Bolser, Jacob Hoffner "Jake" Bolser, Mary Elizabeth Bolser (1877-?), Margaret Bell Bolser, John Quincy Adams Bolser, and William Bolser. He worked as bill poster. He died on September 18, 1898 of a cerebral hemorrhage at his home at 316 Wade Street in Cincinnati, Ohio.
