Daniel was the son of immigrant Rudolph Bollinger. Rudolph was buried on the family property.

Daniel's brothers and sisters were Magdalene, Anna, Elizabeth, Barbara, Christian, Sophia, Maria, Hans Rudolph, and Abraham.

A Bollinger fraktur printed in 1763 at the Ephrata Cloister and now in possession of the New England Historic Genealogical Society lists the children of Rudolph Bollinger. The entry for Daniel is as follows:

Im Jahr Christi 1728, den 28ten Martius ist unser Sohn DANIEL BOLLINGER gebohren an der Connestogue. Alt 35 Jahr, 1763

"In the year 1728, on 28th March was our son Daniel Bollinger born on the Conestoga. Age 35 years, 1763"

Daniel was born before the switch in English lands to the Gregorian calendar, so the assumption is that the date of his birth is O.S. (Old Style).
