Mrs. A. Mabel Bolivar 1966 Bridgewater Bulletin

Baker's Settlement lost one of its oldest and highly esteemed citizens after a lengthy illness, in the passing of Mrs. Angeline Mabel Bolivar, widow of Purdy Bolivar, at the home of her son, Wilton, on Tuesday evening, January 4th., 1966.

The late Mrs. Bolivar was born at Simpson's Corner, June 4th., 1881, daughter of the late Gideon and Ada (Veinot) Simpson.

After spending several years of her early life in the United States, she returned to Nova Scotia, and after her marriage in August, 1903, she resided at Baker Settlement. Of thus union there were five daughters and three sons, Mildred (Mrs. Livingstone Bolivar), Wileville; Thelma (Mrs. Arthur Wold), West Hartford, Conn.; Edna (Mrs. Randolph Lewis), Caledonia; Flora (Mrs. Edward Shupe), South Brookfield; Lydia (Mrs. Murray Hirtle), Baker Settlement; Ralph, Yukon Territory; Maurice and Wilton, Baker Settlement.

Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Ida Murphy, California; Blanche (Mrs. William Crowell), Florida; three brothers, Linwood, British Columbia; Percy and Ellard, Simpson's Corner; two brothers and two sisters predeceased her. Twenty grandchildren and twenty-eight great grandchildren also survive.

Many will remember the late Mrs. Bolivar as a kind neighbour and friend, always ready to render help where needed.

At an early age, she united with the Lutheran Church which she attended as long as health permitted.

Funeral services were held on Friday afternoon at her late residence and at St. Luke's Lutheran Church by her pastor, Rev. L.L. Batdorf, who after reading favourite passages of scripture, brought a comforting and helpful message. The hymn,"Good Night and Good Morning" was rendered by Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Hebb at the house; "Asleep in Jesus" and "How Great Thou Art" at the church by the choir.

With thanks to Rosemary Rafuse.
