Sister Elsie Marie Boles was born August 5, 1948 on St. Helena Island, South Carolina. She was the fifth child of nine born to Mr. and Mrs. John Boles. Elsie Marie Boles departed this life peacefully at home on Tuesday, May 1, 2012

At a young age, she was baptized and joined the Ebenezer Baptist Church on St. Helena Island.

Marie received her formal education in the public schools of Beaufort County. She graduated from St. Helena High School in 1966. Elsie Marie continued her education at Mather Junior College in Beaufort, South Carolina. She received her Associate Degree from Mather.

In 1970, Marie migrated to Boston, Massachusetts. She lived and worked in Boston for a number of years. After her return to South Carolina, Marie found employment with the Beaufort County School District.

Marie was a woman of much prayer; she was devoted to her mother until her mother's death. She wore a big smile, and always had a word of encouragement.

John Boles, her father, Florence "Florie" Boles, her mother; her sisters, Jannie Mae and Carol Boles along with a brother, John Boles, Jr. predeceased Elsie Marie.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories, three loving sisters, Dorothy (Moses) Williams of Atlanta, GA, Viola Mary (Bishop Cleveland) Hackworth of Pensacola, FL and Caroline Boles of Boston, MA; four caring brothers, Clifford Byas of St. Helena Island, SC, Willie Pope of Burton, SC, Eugene Nelson of St. Helena Island, SC and Freddie Bryant of Virginia; she also leaves several uncles, aunts, cousins, nephews and nieces. In addition, she also leaves two close friends in Boston, MA.

Funeral services: Helen Galloway's Memorial Chapel of Chisholm Galloway Home for Funerals, 808 Bladen Street, Beaufort, SC.
