Alvin was born May 22, 1924, in Catawba County to the late Alvin and Lottie Deal Bolch, Sr. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Ezell Bolch; and a sister, Frances Bigsby.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church, retired from Elliott Hosiery Mill and served in the Army Air Corp during World War II.

Above all, he was a beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He lived to see his children grow personally and professionally and have families of their own. He attended all the grandchildren's graduations from high school and college as well as the weddings of two granddaughters. During retirement, he walked daily, won medals in his senior pool division and enjoyed several cruises and trips with children and grandchildren. He loved to tinker and could fix just about anything, taught his granddaughters to dance, loved big band music and his breakfast buddies on the weekends. He had a beautiful smile and will be greatly missed. Surviving are his sons, Bob Bolch, of Apex, N.C. and Mike Bolch and wife, Kathy, of Raleigh; daughters, Mary Bolch Huntley and husband, Robert, of Charlotte and Nan Robertson and husband, Allen, of Rock Hill, S.C.; grandchildren, Matthew, Laurin, Kelly, Justin, Amanda and Emily; great-grandchildren, Zeke and Zoey; and brother, Malcolm Bolch of Hickory.
